Urska is one of the Frost Behemoths in Dauntless. It is the keystone Behemoth of Frost Escalation.
Journal Entry[]
"l am called the queen of Skaldeskar, but there remain hidden caverns there steeped in cold, grim power where no human holds sway. Such places are ruled only by the Urska."
As much a force of nature as a living Behemoth, the mighty Urska is known as the "Adversary of Vylmark" for good reason. As long as anyone can remember, it has been an existential threat to the Skaldish capital and indeed, the entire Skaldeskar archipelago. Followed a cycle of hibernation and emergence, this terrifying apex predator regularly devastates settlements and wilderness alike, then returns to its lair deep within the big island of the chain.
Dr. Priyani believes that unlike almost every other Behemoth species known, the Urska may be a singular creature, a prototype created before the Upheaval. If not for its own self-destructive powers, it might well have become a dominant force in the Shattered Isles. But its hypercharged heart of living frost eventually overtakes the Urska's own defenses. This is a slow process unless the beast is slain, which triggers a cascade that freezes it solid. Skaldish Slayers called the Frostwardens, personally commanded by the monarch of Skaldeskar, arose specifically to drive the Urska back into that deathly slumber.
But Arkan Drew hypothesizes the Urska is not immortal in a literal sense. When slain, its life force halts. But the same power that imprisons the Behemoth also preserves it perfectly, feeding the Urska until it is strong enough to break free. Both Priyani and Drew agree upon that the Urska itself is the source of the pernicious frostbite that plagues any non-Skaldish in the area. While the Skaldish have evolved an immunity called snowblood, the frostbite is a natural defense against any "Skyslayer" who comes to the battle unprepared.
Skaldeskar is slowly warming as it inevitably rejoins the Shattered Isles. Soon, the Urska may emerge from its lair for good, only returning to feed on Skaldeskar's charged cores. Until then the only solution is to keep fighting back.
Kat's Hunting Tips:
"The Urska has a malign intelligence and fatal arrogance that is the key to its own defeat. "
-The Urska climbs the pillars in its lair to launch attacks from above. Eyes up, Slayer.
-Urska's roar destroys all of the pillars in its lair when it becomes aether-charged. On the bright side? No pillars for the Urska to climb!
-Be ready to dodge if the Urska grabs one of your teammates! The Adversary can hurl your bodies as projectiles, battering two Slayers for the price of one.
