Journal Entry[]

In the millennium since the Upheaval, the creation of new Behemoths has been humanity's greatest taboo. But where others saw an unthinkable crime against the world, the tyrannical Ostian Triumvirate saw the perfect opening. For what was one more shattered tradition if it meant more efficient conquest of the Shattered Isles?

To maintain secrecy over this forbidden effort, they chose an aging industrial powerhouse isle called Blazeworks 17. Due to be scuttled, the island would instead be hollowed out, filled back in with cutting-edge scientific facilities, scientists, and Behemoth parts, then set adrift in a carefully arranged "accident" blamed on Seismic insurgents. The Blazeworks become a roving island nest for Ostia's monster of metal and blaze they called the Phaelanx. The name was chosen based on the Triumvirate's stated goal: the creation of one Behemoth that could fight alongside Ostigaard's elite Enforcers with the strength of an entire army.

Unfortunately for its creators, the Phaelanx was not long content to live on a leash-or in a birdcage. But after a catastrophic first breakout, Ostigaard Enforcers arrived to help the Blazework researchers reassert a measure of control. Pain-inducing implants in every newly created Phaelanx ensured they stayed within the range of the island and would no longer turn against Ostia's forces. Otherwise the metallic menaces were free to regularly venture from within the Blazeworks to feed on the mighty island's central forge and the aether it leaks into the atmosphere.

Since the enforcers arrived, no Phaelanx has failed to return to their molten nest within the island's hollow interior, but Dr. Priyani believes Ostia cant restrain them forever. For now, the best Kat Sorrel and the Slayers of Ramsgate can do is contain Ostia's forbidden creations the old-fashioned way: steel vs. steel.

Kat's Hunting Tips:

-Its creators crafted the Phaelanx's wings from aether-tempered Ostian steel forged in the Great Furnace of Ostigaard. Every feather is a razor-edge blade that fans out into a surprisingly wide sweep attack that rivals the Shrowd's.

-That Phaelanx isn't just happy to see you. Those are bioaetheric missile launchers on its back. Don't get caught in the downpour

-If ever a Behemoth could literally stare holes right through a Slayer, it's the Phaelanx. When the eyes start to glow, get out of the way before its burning eye-beams.
