Journal Entry[]

"The doc says she's never seen anything like the Agarus before. No one had, until it caught our Farslayer friends with their loincloths down. I can tell you one thing: I can see its spore trails from here."

The Agarus is a previously unrecorded species of Behemoth that made itself violently known when it emerged from the islands beneath the Farslayer city of Arbourhome. Its Agaric spores are infused with living terra aether that can infect and alter other Behemoths at the genetic level. Such creatures are known as Sporestruck Behemoths and hunt the ruins of the Farslayer's blighted home for whatever scraps of archonite the Agarus leaves for them. Fortunately, aetherically infused armour appears to repel the spores, leaving Slayers safe to explore the Arbourhome Blight.

Unlike many previously discovered species, Dr. Priyani and her colleagues believe the Agarus may have arisen independently through intense, accelerated evolutionary pressures acting on living terra particles. Most other species, even those that have changed dramatically over the centuries since the Upheaval, still show clear signs of ancient genetic engineering. The Agarus, however, shows a rate of mutation in its aDNA that Priyani (and Arkan Drew) believe could only have developed naturally.

Kat's Hunting Tips:

-The Agarus will spawn toxic mushrooms during times of high stress. Destroy them before they burst and you'll open a jump vent that allows you to mount the Behemoth and inflict heavy damage up close. If you do not, the mushrooms will disintegrate into a pool of poison.

-While Agaric spores cannot harm Slayers thanks to the aether-infused gear, terra aether is as much as a threat as ever. Behemoths and other living things infected with Agaric spores can still do plenty of damage to the unwary.

-Like many terra Behemoths, the Agarus has a much longer reach than is immediately apparent. It can swing its long vine-arm like a whip to lash, trip, or trap its foes, will fling explosive fungi from its own back to attack at range, and even send seeking roots through the ground to strike unsuspecting Slayers from below.

-Fighting close in isn't any guarantee of safety. An Agarus can ball one fist into a piledriver that shakes the earth and knocks all but the most agile Slayers off their feet.
